Encounters on the Israel Trail was established by Raya and Yossi Ofner in honor of
their son Staff Sergant Avi, who was killed along with 72 other soldiers in the tragic
1997 helicopter crash that shook Israeli society. People who have lost family and friends
to the call of duty or terrorism are specifically invited to take part in the program, and it
has taken on special significance for all participants.
The project is run by the Amuta – NGO " Avi- Beshvil Israel" (formed by the Ofner
family) together with "Hamidrasha Educational Center for the Renewal of Jewish Life in
Israel" at the Oranim College, and since 2014 also with the KKL-JNF.
Various community and cultural centres have donated their facilities and assistance,
and many former participants have returned as volunteers to play an active role in the
organizational, logistical and marketing tasks both before and during the walking
seminar.
Professional guides and facilitators are responsible for the creation of the content
elements and interactive experience
